A$AP Rocky Calls Rihanna’s Red Carpet Looks ‘Unmatched’ and Names This ‘Crazy’ Met Gala ‘Fit a Fave
“My shorty’s got it. She’s been bodying that for years,” the rapper said of Rihanna and her 11 Met Gala red carpet outfits since making her debut in 2007
A$AP Rocky and Rihanna are Met Gala royalty.
For a couple that’s snagged an invite to Anna Wintour’s prestigious sartorial event more times than most, the rapper effortlessly pinpointed one of his favorite looks worn by his longtime partner in the 11 years that she’s attended.
“My shorty’s got it. She’s been bodying that for years,” Rocky, 36, told Elle of Rihanna, 37, and her presence at the Met Gala in a September interview. “She’s been going crazy. Her red carpet looks, ain’t nobody… it’s been unmatched,” he said.
“I love the Pope one,” he revealed of the “Diamonds” singer’s intricately bejeweled ensemble that she wore to the 2018 Met Gala, which was themed “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”
He added, “Like that Pope one was crazy.”
That year, Rihanna served as an event co-chair — and her papal-inspired look answered our prayers, featuring an ornate bishop’s headdress, a bejeweled minidress and a matching collared robe by Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano.
The singer, who is currently expecting her third baby with Rocky, told Entertainment Tonight at the time that the outfit she wore to the 2018 Met Gala was indeed as heavy as it looked.
“It was heavy, every step was a squat,” she joked with the outlet, adding, “I promise you my butt gained from that night.”
Rocky went on to praise Rihanna when asked by Elle about “the most iconic Met Gala look of all time,” whether it be someone else’s or one of his own.

“We’re talking about me right now. I don’t want to talk about nobody else but me. You fishing, but we talking about me,” he joked, before raving about his “lady.”
“Oh you talking about my lady?” he asked. “She had some ‘fits, she did her thing. But the king came through, and he had to… take the whole thing under control,” he said with a smile, seemingly a nod to when he entered the Met Gala scene alongside her.
“Everybody’s going to be okay. It’s safe. You’re in good hands with Flacko,” he jokingly continued, making a reference to his “Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye” nickname. “I got you covered. Don’t worry about nothing.”
Rihanna made her Met Gala debut in 2007, while Rocky’s first documented appearance on the sartorial steps was in 2014. Since then, he’s attended the event four more times in 2017, 2021, 2023 and 2025.
Most recently, Rocky was named co-chair of the 2025 Met Gala alongside Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams and Wintour, celebrating “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5 in New York City.
